Interview with Rob Zivney at ISC West security show in Las Vegas
At the recent ISC West security show in Las Vegas, Rob Zivney, vice president Government & Standards for Identive, was interviewed by the Security Industry Association. In the interview, Rob discussed several topics related to current trends in physical and IT security, including:
- Physical security and IT security used to be two very separate things. Now they’re often inseparable. Is this the future of security?
- A big part of both physical and logical security, of course, is the smart card that provides access. What are the challenges when implementing a smart card program?
- What is the role of technical standards in all of this? How important are they?
- The federal Office of Management and Budget in February issued a memo regarding the implementation of HSPD-12. Can you tell us about what OMB said and what this means for the industry?
- Some people are concerned that the technologies used in smart cards – particularly RFID and biometrics – could negatively affect their privacy. How would you respond to those concerns?
- Do you see a day when every piece of official identification is a smart card? If so, how far off is that day?
- What role does SIA play regarding ID management issues?
